AskMrVideo Newsletter | December 3, 2008 | Volume 2, Issue 1

Hopefully, most of us will break out the cameras this holiday season and capture the events for posterity. Some of us are lucky enough to have new Flip cameras! I just got a new Flip HD camera and am ITCHING to try it out! Don't be behind the camera for the entire season, but plan out some strategic sessions - your family will appreciate it.

My son "Jr. Video" was born on Christmas day so Mrs. Video and I had a great 1991 holiday season, but not too many photos. Here is one of him we managed to snap during that amazing time! It is crazy how time flies. He now is taller than I am and quite an amazing young man.

It goes so fast - capture it all as it happens!

Stay Tuned...

Here are some suggestions for great videos and also for great uses for your footage.

Filming Tips and Ideas:

  • Set up a tripod in a corner of the room and film the party as it unfolds.

  • Interview relatives about their first Christmas/New Years together.

  • Short Documentary about "Boxing Day" (I have NO idea what this is about! Help us out UK.)

  • Film your spouse's "Secret Recipe" for cookies, cakes, turkey, etc.

  • Film a "New Years Holiday Greeting" - post on your web and send to clients, friends, and/or family

  • Film thank you messages and send out (use http://www.tokbox.com/)

  • Stream video to folks who can't be there (use http://www.ustream.com)

  • Video conference with distant relatives (use http://SightSpeed.com or http://Skype.com)

  • Film your children reading or reciting a poem etc.

  • Film everyone's New Year's resolutions - and use as leverage later!

  • Film winter scenes for next year's interactive holiday card/DVD.

  • Film winter scenes for green screen backgrounds

  • Film a family tradition and start collecting these every year.

  • Pass the Flip Camera around and have each person tell one thing they are grateful for.

  • Record a special message for your sweetheart on the Flip Camera before you give it to them.

  • Have grandparents tell one "secret" about their children!

  • Film a "testimonial" of each child or parent. Talk about what they do for you and how they have impacted your life.

The more light you have in the room the better. Focus on your family and capture special moments.

Have a great season! Capture it!
