I have been traveling a lot lately and have some more trips coming up.
I actually love to travel. Some travel is fun, some of it necessary, some
can be bittersweet. My trip to Michigan this past week was for an unexpected
funeral. I got to see family and cousins I haven't seen in a long time, took
some family portraits, and shot a wee bit of video with my new Flip HD. That
trip was bittersweet.
Today I go to New York City to be with some friends as we go to the Wired
Pop Up Store opening. That trip will be fun! Being with friends, old and
new, is always fun.
Later this month Ms Video and Jr Video and I go on our Holiday Vacation.
That trip is necessary AND fun! It is always good (and necessary) to get
away and recharge - especially with those closest to you.
While
Santa has been busy looking for new jokes
and prepping for his travel, the elves have been especially busy putting the
final touches on
peopleonyourpage.com and the Video Opt-in Machine. It has
been a long journey developing these tools but the efforts are finally
paying off. This "trip" will hopefully be profitable for all of us!
Elves w00t!: I want to give a shout out to our team members who work so hard on the MLI
sites behind the scenes and introduce them to you. Karen is in charge of all
customer goodness and Lisa expertly handles all the coding details (and this
Newsletter). Aaron has done an amazing job on the AMV site redesign and
Antony is the project manager on the large jobs for MLI and other clients.
Connie is the transcriptionist extraordinaire and Terrie takes the amazing
class notes.
A HUGE "Thank You" to these Elves from Mr Video! Could not do this trip
without you!
Stay Tuned...

VIDEO OF THE WEEK
Mr Video Says:
Time Magazine published the Top Ten Viral
Videos of 2008. These are great examples of the creative ways people are
using video. The video above was #1 and is amazing in its scope and in how
it is able to touch the heart by its simple and infectious music and spirit.

FEATURE ARTICLE
"Be Creative in
One Step" by Perry Lawrence
I recently sat down with my good friend Dean Hunt of DeanHunt.com
and asked him what the number one tip he could give me on creativity
was.
You see, Dean is kind of an expert on creative thinking. How do I know?
Well, Dean and I worked on a project together that had me rethinking
creativity, the viral nature of video, and the cosmos. OK, maybe not the
cosmos but meeting Dean in person was mind-altering for sure. To check
out the project we worked on, take a look here
http://deanhunt.com/pagerank.html.
For a full report on the power it had, check this post out:
http://deanhunt.com/the-power-of-creative-thinking/
Anyway, I sat down with Dean in the UK recently over a "Full English"
breakfast and asked "What is the single best tip for creativity you can
give me?"
Ready? Here it is...
Dean told me to make a list of all the attributes of something I wanted
to use or leverage or spoof. Then, next to each attribute, list the
opposite.
Take for example the Google Page Rank video. Some attributes of the page
rank are small, static, silent. So opposites would be large, moving,
with audio. Start thinking about the page rank icon in these new terms
(large, moving, audio) and you can get some pretty crazy ideas popping
into your head!
You can see this at work all over Dean's blog. Everything from "Killer"
bunnies to his "World's most unprofessional sales page."
Try it. Want to do something that stands out? Take your current project
and turn it on its ear by incorporating some opposites. You will boost
your creativity and come up with some break out videos!
