Happy New Year!

Great to be starting 2009 off with you all! The Mr Video family was in Puerto Rico and we had an amazing time. I was able to shoot a lot of video for my new video blog that's coming next week. I shot some great footage using the Flip HD. Simply an amazing little camera. I didn't want to take my big camera as this WAS a vacation after all!

For stills I brought my Olympus 720 SW - all Olympus SW series are shock and water proof - Plus Video! So, was able to shoot some underwater scenes.

If you ever go to PR, you MUST go to the Bio Luminescent Lagoon in Fajardo. Probably needs to be one of the Seven Wonders. Plankton luminesce as they get disturbed - by fish, your hand, etc. Simply surreal - think a bazillion fireflies underwater. Probably one of the most difficult things to film however. I will go back one day and try to capture it.

Here's hoping you have a wonderful year filled with good friends, good times, all captured on video!

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

Mr Video Says: There is so much going on here I wanted you to get a good look! The salesmanship is funny and effective. This is, after all, a dicer. But Vince equates not having one to a boring life! LOL I LOVE the glint at 1:19. The behind the head toss of the competition is a show stopper. The scarcity ploy is fun also: 'you KNOW we can't do this all day..' - soo funny I've been watching it over and over again. Laughing out loud!

FEATURE ARTICLE

Kimberly is a student and action taker! I just wanted to share this with you as a New Year's inspirational story. Kimberly let nothing stand in her way of "Gettin 'er DONE!" Congrats!

If you think you are not technically sophisticated enough to do a video, THINK AGAIN. If I can…anyone can!

So, I do the Monday night call where Perry talks about video.

Huh..video? Umm…a Flip…what's that? Whatzit do? Meander over to theflip.com. Figures…it's not free! Well, they do sell it at Walmart, and according to the site, it's available at my local store.

Tuesday morning chaos…get kids off to school, trip over husband and plumber fixing disintegrated hot water heater, get dressed for lunch meeting. On the way, run into Walmart and whoohoo - they have a 30 minute one on sale for $79. And, it's PINK. It must be meant to be. I pull out the credit card and hope my husband's parents give me that $100 for Christmas again this year.

Back home, put in batteries, put on tripod, hit button, record. Connect to computer, and Voila! Heck, I'm even able to figure out how to edit out me turning the sucker on and off.

Now, the lighting was awful, I wasn't made up, and there was all that junk on the shelf behind me. And, time to get the kids, have a conference call, then the Christmas play and dinner and so now we come to Wednesday morning.

Gotta put my car in the shop, so I don't get to work until around 11AM. Okay, first things first. Clean up the bookshelf. Head out the shed and dig out the box with all my plaques, statues, etc for sales awards. (Note to self…why the heck don't I have this stuff on the wall in the office? Seeing it again is making me feel pretty good!) Set up some plaques on the shelves, clean up desk. Climb under couch and unplug the seven-foot-tall diffused light lamp and drag it into office.

Make-up, lipstick? Check.

Put Flip back on tripod, hit "on" button. Record. Download.

Oops. Tripod too low - little too much nostril angle! Raise tripod. Shoot again. Download. Edit out me turning camera on and off. Save to hard drive. Dang…that was EASY.

No…I did NOT work from a script. I don't have on camera experience, but I do have extensive public speaking experience.

Okay, so I did have some technical bugaboos - but the bottom line is that by 7PM Wednesday, I had a video squeeze page up and working, less than 48 hours after I even heard about how to do one. For my fellow lost-feeling non techies…if I can do this, YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Here's my site http://www.sellmoretonight.com It's definitely NOT perfect, and today I've got to record the four videos so it's fully realized. But it's UP and it WORKS, and I never would have done it or thought I could do it if it wasn't for the wisdom and encouragement of this group! Special thanks to Perry, Jennifer, and Barry for inspiration, guidance, and offer of help!

And love to my pink Flip…may we make many happy movies together!

Kimberly

VIDEO GEAR REVIEW

CineGobs - Everlasting chroma fun!

CineGobs where have you been all my life?
I have been searching for so long...
to find an answer...
Now my life has meaning...
WoooooWoooo...

Seriously, apologies to Chicago but CineGobs is an AMAZING find. OH OH OH did I mention it's FREE?

Here is what CineGobs site has to say for itself:

"CineGobs keyer is a software for keying out backgrounds. Keying is a technique used to separate foreground objects from the background. You can work on video files, image sequences and single images."

Well, it is that and so much more. CineGobs is one of the most powerful keyers I have ever used. It ranks right up there with Ultra and AfterEffects. OH OH OH Did I mention it's available as a download on AskMrVideo.com?

CineGobs Keyer has no less than 6 types of keying and a very powerful rotoscoping and masking tool - critical for superior key work.

I put together a little demo of the software and I think when you see the ease and quality of the keys, you will run out and bu... oops, I did mention the cost right? NO CHARGE!

Check out the tutorial I did on CineGobs here: http://www.askmrvideo.com/public/412.cfm
