Thanks Gramps!
This week I'm heading down to southern Virginia to film a training DVD
with Thomas Roberts and I can't wait to get started! I was down there
last weekend and I really love the fact that fall is just about here! I
also love that I can create products that teach people how to do things.
I was just interviewed by Carolyn Herfurth today and she asked me if
there were any other entrepreneurs in my family. I had to think, but
then I remembered Grandpa Trinklein. Grampa had a very successful
continuity business in central Michigan - Frankenmuth to be exact.
Grandpa owned Trinklein Dairy and yes that was a continuity-based
business. And farmers are about as entrepreneurial as you can get -
tough life.
My other Grandpa, Grandpa Lawrence, I never met. He died when my father
was only 5 (last of 13 births). But he too was an entrepreneur. He ran
the Hinton Construction Company of Hinton, West Virginia. His company
was one of the firms that built the main bridge going into town - and
it's still standing!
Grandpa Lawrence invested in property. Unfortunately Hinton was a
coal/railroad town. Not much property value today. BUT... his wife,
Grandma Lawrence, survived (and thrived) off those properties by renting
them out.
Now my parents, on the other hand, were both educators. Mom was a
kindergarten and 1st grade teacher while my dad was a band director.
Being a public school teacher is tough! I learned a LOT from them!
Mostly sharing what you know and helping others out.
So why this trip down gene pool lane? Well, I was given the opportunity
to reflect on who I am and how I got here and I just wanted to share. I
hope this gives you some insight into what makes me tick and to why I
started AskMrVideo.com. I love what I do and I love teaching people how
to do it too.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK
Mr Video Says:
This is a great video from AMV member Amelia. Here is s short note she
posted in the forum:
Perry,
I used techniques that I learned from you and Carrie Wilkerson to post a
video for a contest to win an all expense-paid business trip. It was
selected to be in the top 20 for voting which ends Sept 22. The video
exemplifies the benefits of learning from you and Carrie ;-)

FEATURE ARTICLE
How Web Video Empowers Global
Innovation
This is a great video from TED given by TED curator, Wired Magazine
publisher, and The Long Tail author Chris Anderson. In this piece Chris
discusses how YouTube is changing the way ideas are shared and how
people are learning. There are some great ideas and stats so grab a
pencil and enjoy this 18-minute presentation. I've posted this on my
blog as I'd love it if you would share your ideas, experiences
agreements or disagreements with me and the rest of the "crowd."
This is an important video for sure. I really want you to see how ideas
that were once slow moving are now quick, global, and call like minded
individuals to step up their game.
YouTube changing the world for the better... who'da thunk!

Movie Slate for iPhone and iPad

 |
This
little app has saved my bacon more than once! It's an electronic slate
and a lot more.
First of all, the slate feature lets you mark your tails and easily
increment reel, shot, and take with single button ease. Then, it LOGS
each and every shot and allows you to not only title the shot but circle
it (good takes) annotate the shot with text AND audio. That's right, you
can talk
your thoughts into the Movie Slate and it stores everything
with the shot log.
The shot log history manages your productions and you can quickly find
what shot was the close up and what shot was the best take. All settings
are customizable and choices are editable and drop down selectable
making for super fast and easy use in the field.
On a recent shoot for Leanne Ely of SavingDinner.tv, I used the camera
to slate my two cameras. When I went to edit I, could quickly find the
matching shots. As my workload increases and I hand things off to
assistant editors, it becomes a real workflow helper.
Traditional Timecode Slates run about $1500! And do a quarter of what
the Movie Slate does. So my iPad investment has been awesome - based on
this alone. ;-)
There is a TON of things that Movie Slate can do. Check out the website
