Affordable Lavaliere Mic Solution

Printer-Friendly Format

The $24 RadioShack Clipon Electret Lavaliere Microphone is a nice tool to have in your camera bag. If you are looking for an inexpensive mic, this one will fit the bill nicely.

I walked into my local RadioShack and asked for a lavaliere mic - thinking I'd try whatever they had. This one was a pleasant surprise and picks up very well. It is not a $300 mic, but is sure beats your on-camera mic! Have a look and listen:

What you get: You get a wired lavaliere microphone with a 6' cord. You get a plastic clip to use for attaching onto clothing. You get a battery - Electret microphones are powered and this small battery is placed into a holder on the cord which also has an on/off switch.

I highly recommend getting an extension cord as the 6' length is not going to be enough. A 6' extension should be good.
