It's only Jan. 8 and it seems like so much has happened already! We got back from Hawaii (first time in warm weather for Christmas) on New Years Day. Midnight came somewhere around San Francisco. They say, whatever you do on New Years Day will set the theme for the rest of the year - so I guess I'll spend a lot of time traveling!
And travel I did today - I drove down from Philly to Maryland to film Yanik Silver for some promotions he is doing for his http://www.maverickbusinessadventures.com/baja Business Adventure.
I'm the videographer of record for the MBA trips so I'm off to Cabo San Lucas at the end of the month. Guess I WILL be traveling this year!
If you are not familiar with Yanik Silver, you should get to know that name. Yanik is one of the premiere Internet marketers and hosts the annual "Underground" marketing seminars.
Announcement: I am making available to members a 30 track album of Royalty Free Soundtracks (VideoTracks Volume 1). These are great for adding to your productions without licensing worries. See the link below.

"Travel Video" by Perry Lawrence
I just got back from Hawaii and I will be shooting the Maverick Business Adventures for Yanik Silver this year. One thing I love is bringing the right gear, not forgetting anything and preparing for most eventualities (while being able to carry it all). Here's my main gear and why I choose it.
Main Camera - Sony HDR-FX1.
This is an amazing camera and a real pleasure to use. It has amazing quality video and has held it's value since I got it in 2004.
Backup/handheld Camera Sony HC7
I just got this camera and am having a ball with it. It was a toss up between this and the Canon HV20. I wanted cameras I could easily cut between and so the Sony won out.
Light, portable, ball level, smooth, inexpensive.
Extras - Batteries one each per camera
(new airline regs limit amount) with travel chargers.
Backpack - All the above fits into my Lowe Pro Pro Trekker
Never leaves my side
Light - Frezzi on Camera Light w/NP1B batteries
Hope these get through the airline!
Tripod - Libec TH-M20.
Photoflex reflectors
Sony Underwater Housing (optional)
Asus 4G (701) notebook
The above seems like a lot but most fits into my backpack and the tripod and larger things fit into my suite case. The Asus fits into a small carryon bag. So picture me in the airport with a large suite case, a backpack and small carryon. Not too shabby. Beats lugging around a professional Beta Cam and O'Connor 20 lb tripod! Ah, the good ole days...

Video Gear Review
Here we go! My favorite part of every "Tip of the Week". This is where we get to look at some neat toys tools!
Instant Video Edits (While you wait)
I stumbled upon ANIMOTO and was really impressed with the ease of use. You upload photos and get an instant edit and embedable video! 30 seconds is free and access to full length edits is only $30 for the year. I threw some photos from the Baja trip and out popped an nice little video.
May not be for everyone but sure is fun to try. Check out my "edit" and then check out Animoto.
Do you know somebody who would find this review useful?

Hi,
I know this was discussed somewhere (perhaps in this forum), but I can't remember the name of the software program that is a decent Macintosh alternative to Camtasia. If someone could help me out, I'd appreciate it.
Cheers, Dick

Another solution is iShowU http://shinywhitebox.com/home/home.html
Also, you should check out Screenography by VerticalMoon.com.
TechSmith (Makers of Camtasia) are developing a Mac version which I guess will be out by year end:
