Marketing With Video

I've been creating a variety of videos in a variety of styles since 1986. I started out in NYC, I was editing and I was a punk kid who didn't know much about video. But fortunate for me, I was in the advertising business. A great place to be in those days! Fortunate too, that I had a great set of mentors and clients.
Now since that time things have changed. Budgets have tightened, tools have changed and clients have come and gone. One thing remains that I can see - video is a powerful tool and used properly, can help your business.
Video can teach, train, educate, humor, encourage, convict, illuminate, fool, inform, and motivate - to name a few. But for your business, it needs to do one thing...
Your video must take people TO THE NEXT STEP - whatever that may be. It may be to sign up, fill out, join up, let go, heave to or watch more. BUT it must help people get to the next stage in your sales path.
In the coming weeks I'm going to talk a lot about this NEXT STEP MARKETING so follow along. You should always be taking your customers to THE NEXT STEP. Video can play a major role in this because video hits all the right buttons. A good video can hit you emotionally, and intellectually. It can tell you exactly what to do next like no other medium. Video can SHOW YOU what to do and how to do it. Smart video marketers are using Next Step technologies. to prod their potential customers and point them in the right direction.
What doesn't work? Long videos. Long sales videos do not work because unlike long sales letters you can't easily skip around and you can't skim. Be kind to your audience and respect their presence by telling them - in short order - what it is you want them to do NEXT.
