Dear Videographer,

I have a lot of info to pass on to you this week! I'm off to the next Maverick Business Adventure in Las Vegas (baby) and I'll be flying the Zero - G "Vomit Comet"! Actually it's a great feeling I'm told - they even give you a prescription motion sickness shot. I'm very sensitive to motion sickness so I'll be asking for a double dose!

In the Zero - G flight there are multiple cameras all around and they film in HDV. Nice! In the Air Combat flight, there are four cameras rolling for each pilot! That's a lot of good footage. The Air Combat folks shoot in DVCam.

Then we fly in helicopters to the base of the Grand Canyon and have a business session and a power lunch.

I'll be shooting all the not flight stuff in HDV and also taking stills with my Nikon D40. The D40 is an amazing camera and my wide angle lens is a dream to shoot with.

I'm on Twitter so you can follow me on this adventure. Follow my micro blog at http://www.twitter.com/askmrvideo

"What Every Good Marketer Knows"
by Seth Godin

  • Anticipated, personal and relevant advertising always does better than unsolicited junk.
  • Making promises and keeping them is a great way to build a brand.
  • Your best customers are worth far more than your average customers.
  • Share of wallet is easier, more profitable and ultimately more effective a measure than share of market.
  • Marketing begins before the product is created.
  • Advertising is just a symptom, a tactic. Marketing is about far more than that.
  • Low price is a great way to sell a commodity. That's not marketing, though, that's efficiency.
  • Conversations among the members of your marketplace happen whether you like it or not. Good marketing encourages the right sort of conversations.
  • Products that are remarkable get talked about.
  • Marketing is the way your people answer the phone, the typesetting on your bills and your returns policy.
  • You can't fool all the people, not even most of the time. And people, once unfooled, talk about the experience.
  • If you are marketing from a fairly static annual budget, you're viewing marketing as an expense. Good marketers realize that it is an investment.
  • People don't buy what they need. They buy what they want.
  • You're not in charge. And your prospects don't care about you.
  • What people want is the extra, the emotional bonus they get when they buy something they love.
  • Business to business marketing is just marketing to consumers who happen to have a corporation to pay for what they buy.
  • Traditional ways of interrupting consumers (TV ads, trade show booths, junk mail) are losing their cost-effectiveness. At the same time, new ways of spreading ideas (blogs, permission-based RSS information, consumer fan clubs) are quickly proving how well they work.
  • People all over the world, and of every income level, respond to marketing that promises and delivers basic human wants.
  • Good marketers tell a story.
  • People are selfish, lazy, uninformed and impatient. Start with that and you'll be pleasantly surprised by what you find.
  • Marketing that works is marketing that people choose to notice.
  • Effective stories match the worldview of the people you are telling the story to.
  • Choose your customers. Fire the ones that hurt your ability to deliver the right story to the others.
  • A product for everyone rarely reaches much of anyone.
  • Living and breathing an authentic story is the best way to survive in an conversation-rich world.
  • Marketers are responsible for the side effects their products cause.
  • Reminding the consumer of a story they know and trust is a powerful shortcut.
  • Good marketers measure.
  • Marketing is not an emergency. It's a planned, thoughtful exercise that started a long time ago and doesn't end until you're done.
  • One disappointed customer is worth ten delighted ones.
  • In the googleworld, the best in the world wins more often, and wins more.
  • Most marketers create good enough and then quit. Greatest beats good enough every time.
  • There are more rich people than ever before, and they demand to be treated differently.
  • Organizations that manage to deal directly with their end users have an asset for the future.
  • You can game the social media in the short run, but not for long.
  • You market when you hire and when you fire. You market when you call tech support and you market every time you send a memo.
  • Blogging makes you a better marketer because it teaches you humility in your writing.

Obviously, knowing what to do is very, very different than actually doing it.

Here we go! My favorite part of every "Tip of the Week". This is where we get to look at some neat toys tools!

Free, free, free. This plug in is free and turns your video into a cartoon like the ads you see running these days. It works with a variety of platforms and does a nice job. It's not up to par with some of the other solutions out there but for the small price of FREE, I can live with it for certain jobs!

Hi Perry! There's a lot of biz about viral videos recently and I would love to know how YOU would do something like this:

http://www.youregonnamissthis.com/

What type of software would you use to create this? Vegas? Movie Studio? Camtasia? Something else?

The author says she uses a "flash programmer" to create this for her after she pics the pictures and music.

But how would YOU do it?

Thanks.
Rich

Rich, I'd do it using SwishMax http://www.swishzone.com or hire someone on elance to do it if I needed something custom.

I'd get my images from iStockphoto.com

I'm working on something similar but with video. I'm doing that in AfterEffects.

Any video editing program can do this, Vegas etc. However using a Flash based program like Flash, Swish, or similar will keep the graphics and text crisp since they keep the vector based shapes and don't convert to "video".

Check out Swish and also some of the other programs swishzone offers.

Keynote could do this

Or PowerPoint and Camtasia:

WAY too long but you get the idea. Text looks crisp.

Oh... YES... I can do this pretty easy in Camtasia 5 and Powerpoint 2003. What size do you think I should make the pics?

Rich

Posted By Perry

Since not much going on, you could get away with 800x600!

Perry

Thanks Perry! I have SwishMax - I just have to figure out how to use it for this...lol!

I guess after you do it once, then you can actually have yourself a template.

But I wonder how much it herds his SEO that there is absolutely no content on this main page and no links for the search engine to follow?

Anders

The YourGonnaMissThis site is not intended for SEO - it is strictly for affiliate marketing. I'll see if I can get Terry to comment on his approach and who he used.

Hi guys - Terry Wygal here - Happy Mothers Day - just spent a great day with my mom and step mom and wife - so it was all around a super day.

To the movie - I am not sure I can take much credit other than giving a lot of background.

The video concept was created by The Barefoot Exectutve Carrie Wilkerson and her husband Eddie - the same couple that create www.TheBossMovie.com

It was not meant at all to be a SEO page but rather a place to catch the herd if you will.

I wanted it to speak to my crowd and my audience. It does just that.

I will use the video outside that page in an FLV or wav format with a link tot he page I want it to go to - then I will use it to promote my site - but www.youregonnamissthis.com is one where I am driving traffic straight to it.

After the movie finishes it takes it to an opt in page - similar to the one that Perry has - or is - creating. Perry's program he is developing does something very similar - but for this application I chose to use what Carrie created.

I cannot speak to the flash - but yes it is off of stock photos and a very talented couple and then the tech guy who put it all together.

It could certainly be done by a Camtasia and Power Point - but I just did not have the talent they do.

I will take the FLV or WAV format and submit it to several sites so that it becomes Viral - I will have to create Title Clip at the end so it sends them to the right page I want them to go to...

I am in the process of rolling out a real estate training program next week and I wanted to try something different for the people I am doing the JV with for the call.

After that the squeeze page will be for my main membership site.

I will say this - from what I learned here at www.askmrvideo.com and Perry I could have tried to learn how to do all of this - but the business side of me said for me to get the right concept down - and then beg for help

:-)

Perry and Carrie gave me the focus of what needed to be done - Carrie and Eddie Wilkerson brought it together in the perfect setting.
