Weekly Newsletter
August 7th, 2008
Dear Videographer,
It has been an absolutely amazing summer and still more ahead. I'm now packing for my Aspen Adventure with MaverickBusinessAdventures.com and can hardly wait. I'll be filming all the excitement and posting some video and shots for you to follow along with.
My son is now driving and I haven't seen him all summer except for him to ask about "gas" and how the tank gets filled up. It is fun to watch your kids grow up and learn all about being responsible.
These connections have given me a lot of insight into what I can deliver to you and I'm excited to get back to delivering some POWERFUL content in these tips.
So, here we go on a great video journey!
Found Video of the Week
Every week I bring you a new video that illustrates great video, great marketing or both. Enjoy!
Kimmy Schwimmy:
Mr Video says: Here is a good video that is used to promote the Kimmy Schwimmy CDs. I worked with Robert and Kim to get this posted on Aug 2nd. Click on the More Info and notice the link to their site is first. Next is a short description and then a list of people who worked on the film. We are taking this in steps - next step is to distribute to other sites via TubeMogul - we wanted to first see how YouTube posting could impact sales - so far it has!
One issue is the quality of the "Standard Quality version. By clicking on 'watch in high quality' on the YouTube site you can see a significant improvement (watch the text)! Here are the settings I used to get the best quality:
* Video Format: MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid)
* Resolution: 640x480 pixels
* Audio Format: MP3
* Frames per second: 30
* Maximum length: 10 minutes ( 2-3 minutes recommended)
* Maximum file size: 1 GB
" Video Rocks - Experiment Results" by Andy Erickson
I've just completed a limited experiment on one of my ecommerce sites. The experiment was carried out on the home page and on one of the most popular product pages. A test version of each page was created that included a 30-second video, to split-test against the original version of the pages.
The home page video was an introduction to products offered throughout the site, while the product page video was focused on that particular product. Each visitor to the site was either shown the original page, or the page with the video, and Google Analytics was used to track and analyze the results.
The #1 result I was interested in was the "value per visitor" (total sales divided by the number of unique visitors to the page). I was also interested in the time each visitor spent on the page, and the "bounce rate" (the percentage of people that left the site after viewing that page).
Results
In both experiments, the "video" versions of the page clearly out-performed the original version. No other changes were made to the experiment pages other than the inclusion of a video at the top of the content area.
Home Page Results
Video on the home page had the following results (green = improvement):
Time on page: +36%
Bounce rate: -36%
Visitor value: +111%
Product Page Results:
Video on the product page had the following results (green = improvement, red = no improvement):
Time on page: statistical tie
Bounce rate: +14%
Visitor value: +243%
Video on the product page had a slightly higher bounce rate, but the increase in revenue (2.5 times higher!) per visitor makes the trade-off well worth it.
The above tests ran for 45 days. Based on these results, I am going to be rolling out video to additional product pages, and will continue to track improvements / declines verses the original pages. In the case of the two pages already tested, I feel confident in declaring the video versions to be "winners" and ending the split-tests.
I'll report further experiment results here. So far, the improvement is dramatic - I highly recommend testing video on your site if you aren't already!

Video Gear Review
Here we go! My favorite part of every "Tip of the Week". This is where we get to look at some neat toys tools!
Have you ever wondered how you can put VIDEO on
your website?
In the past, there just haven't been any good solutions. Videos were slow, required bulky software to view, and
were hard to put on websites.
But now there is technology that makes putting videos
on your website easy. Better yet, these videos can be
viewed without trouble by virtually all your visitors.
It's called VideoWebWizard 2.0... and it was developed by my good friend Keith Gilbert. It rocks and there are few applications this easy at this price point.
It's not only easy,but it's also powerful software too. It has tons
of neat features like...
1) Multiple Video Conversion - Convert multiple videos
all at once
2) 14 Video Players - Choose from 14 different professional
video player styles
3) 13 Video Skins - Spice up your video with any of the
13 video skins included
4) Brand Your Video - Overlay a business logo, copyright
notice, or other image on top of your video
5) 10 Web Page Templates - Choose from 10 web page templates to put your video on
6) Redirect To URL - Have your viewers automatically
redirected to any link (for example, an order page or
affiliate link) immediately after your video ends
7) Put Video On An Existing Page - Place any output
video on a web page you already have set up

Perry,
What settings do you recommend for indoor shooting of a live seminar event with the HV30 camera? Thank you much!
Sean
Posted By Perry
Sean, the main things to consider are these:
1) Get a mic on the presenter(s) or tap into the house audio
2) White balance the camera for the room lighting
3) Use zebra stripes to determine iris
4) 0 gain (unless need to boost)
5) Low shutter speed (but not lower than 60)
TRIPOD, TRIPOD, TRIPOD (make sure it's level or pans will be on a diagonal)
Hope this helps
