Dear Videographer,

As a token of appreciation for a fantastic year, I have made available a few audio tracks for downloading. These soundtracks are suitable for inclusion on your holiday productions and are royalty free (which means you can use them without charge).

These 4 tracks represent a small sampling of the library I will be making available to members of AskMrVideo.com after the first of the year. The tracks are orchestral, solo piano, or solo guitar, and can be used in your videos without worry about licensing or copyright.

Please read the included End User Agreement and enjoy! Download the 4 free tracks here.

"Holiday Video Guide"
by Perry Lawrence

Hopefully, most of us will break out the cameras this holiday season and capture the events for posterity. Don't be behind the camera for the entire season, but plan out some strategic sessions - your family will appreciate it.

My son Harrison was born on Christmas day so we had a great 1991 holiday season, but not too many photos. The following year we filmed him under the tree in a santa suite - priceless.

Here are some suggestions for great videos and also for great uses for your footage.

Filming Tips and Ideas:

  • Set up a tipod in a corner of the room and film the party as it unfolds
  • Interview relatives about their first Christmas/New Years together.
  • Short Documentary about "Boxing Day" (we I have NO idea what this is about! Help me out UK.)
  • Film your spouse's "Secret Recipe" for cookies, cakes, turkey, etc.
  • Film a "New Years Holiday Greeting" - post on your web and send to clients, friends, and/or family
  • Film thank you messages and send out (use http://www.tokbox.com/)
  • Stream video to folks who can't be there (use http://www.justin.tv)
  • Video conference with distant relatives (use http://SightSpeed.com or http://Skype.com)
  • Film your children reading or reciting a poem etc.
  • Film everyone's New Year's resolutions.
  • Film winter scenes for next year's interactive holiday card/DVD.
  • Film winter scenes for green screen backgrounds
  • Film a family tradition and start collecting these every year.

The more light you have in the room the better. Focus on your family and capture special moments.

Have a great time!

Video Gear Review
Here we go! My favorite part of every "Tip of the Week". This is where we get to look at some neat toys tools!

Freemind and ThinkingRock

This week I want to share two opensource gems that make my life and video business a whole lot easier.

The first is ThinkingRock and it is a GTD (Getting Things Done) based to-do list. If you are not familiar with GTD, David Allen, or his book, check GTD out over at http://www.davidco.com/what_is_gtd.php

Then go to ThinkingRock and download the software. I have tried a few GTD based apps and this one is the best by far. I like it because of the reports it can print out and the way it can display info. It's MAC/PC compatible and you can run it from a thumb-drive!

Another fantastic tool is FreeMind mind mapping software. If you have ever considered spending a fortune of mind mapping software - don't. This free tool is AMAZING. I love mind mapping as it can bring clarity to a cluttered mind like mine. If it can help me it can help you! Most mind mapping software is expensive, but Freemind is free - get it!

Again, this is available for MAC/PC and works as advertised. Another great tool to help you with your projects.

Download these free software packages and drop me a line as to how you like them and how you are using them.

Do you know somebody who would find this review useful?
Email it right to them.

I am looking to record streaming radio audio.

What is the best way to accomplish this?

Are there any programs work better than others?

Thanks

I use AudioHijack on the mac and love it.

For PC I use Audacity but it doesn't record streams I don't believe.
