Newbie Does Video - and SELLS!

Printer-Friendly Format

Carrie Wilkerson of barefoot-executive.com produced a video for the sales page of her new Barefoot Bootcamp.

On a recent trip to Texas, I stopped in and had a few hours to show Carrie's husband Eddie a few tips and tricks. I crammed in a full 3 days worth of info into 2 hours. Eddie's head was swimming but he really is a fast learner.

Here is the initial video:

Not bad for a VERY FIRST PRODUCTION after unwrapping the camera, lights, mic, and Sony Vegas! Seriously - great first time results!

Now Eddie is going through my 8 week Video Strategy Blueprint course - and he is really rocking it. As part of the class I did a critique for him and showed him a few things to do differently and a few things to improve on what he already has.

Here is what I did:
1) Created an intro screen from the Bootcamp Graphics
2) Blew up the image to fill a 4:3 screen
3) Added Music (to hide buzz a bit)
4) Converted to FLV
5) Uploaded to EZS3

Since the video was a talking head and with a plain background, I felt that the 16:9 format was distracting. So, I enlarged the video to fit a standard def 4:3 screen. The mic had a noticeable buzz (which can be attributed to low battery, near a fridge, etc, etc, etc. So, I opted to add some music to mask it a bit and make it not as noticeable. I also used the audio filters to lower the buzz as much as possible.

Finally I converted to FLV since I wanted to post to Amazon S3 using the fantastic eZs3.

Here is a walk through on these steps: Tutorial.

Here is the video from eZs3:

So, you can obviously notice some improvements. In the future I recommended that Eddie shoot in 4:3 since Visual Communicator and YouTube were best suited for this. Also, by using a service like eZs3 you can have full control over the video size and quality.

Carrie and Eddie have just launched the sales letter for her Barefoot Bootcamp and already seeing a 10% conversion rate! THAT is the power of Authentic, Authoritative video!
