Dear Videographer,
Remember those AMEX ads? "Do you KNOW me...?" I was onTwitter (Twitter.com/askmrvideo) the other day and was getting a lot of feedback on a class I had just given, The interaction on the class was one-way but the ability to communicate with the class on Twitter was two-way and community based. I felt like people DID get to know me and I got to know them as well. So, you CAN create a community around 140 characters in Twitter - I have and it has become a fantastic way to connect with people.
One of those people is Kristen Arnold (@kristenarnold on Twitter). She is taking a class with me and sent me a note about how she is using her Flip Camera to send videos to her Nephew who is in the Navy. A great idea for this Veteran's Day! I'm sending Flip Camera video clips to my brother who is stationed in China! He will get such a kick out of that. The Flip camera makes it sooo easy!
Speaking of Holidays, can you believe it's almost Thanksgiving? I love this time of year because of the weather, the sights, sounds, smells, and festivities that are JUST around the corner. Plan NOW for leveraging the power of video to reach out to your community and connect with them. The holidays offer some spectacular themes, backdrops and emotional ties that help create a common bond.

Flip For Authenticity:
Mr Video says: My friend Carrie Wilkerson (The Barefoot Executive) shot this video using just a Flip Camera (Mr Barefoot - Carrie's husband - is in the VVI class that is going on currently). As you can see it has amazing quality and sound. What's interesting about this video is how the Barefoots (Barefeets?) use video to speak directly to their audience and weave their lives into their videos and articles. This is "authenticity" and is what sets some marketers apart - just being yourself and talking to your community. You can check out what Carrie is talking about in the video here:

"Affiliate Linking and Video"
I have had a few people as me this question: "Do I need a website to be able to use video for marketing?" The short answer is "not all all!"
With a camera and a YouTube account you can begin to drive traffic to any URL you want. Take this video for example:
That's a video I shot using my Flip camera. It was one take (after a few tries) and I uploaded straight to YouTube from my Flip. I put a Post-It note on the camera to remind myself of the points I wanted to cover - it was NOT rocket surgery! But, this approach can be powerful and effective. That link is actually a "forwarded domain" to Yanik Silver's current free product offering. I was actually THERE for the video that Yanik talks about (I shot the thing) so I can talk about it with some level of authority and authenticity.
By combining this technique with a distribution plan using TrafficGeyser or TubeMogul (or both) you can quickly see how the aggregate traffic can add up.

I have been looking for a direct to disc video switcher that works on my MacBookPro. Heck, I would have even taken one for my PC! But you needed a $10k box to do any kind of serious switching or professional level work... Until now!
