This All Mac edition of the tip is for all those new Apple fans that have recently signed up. I'm a HUGE Mac user and fan - but I go both ways!
You see, sometimes you just need to do something on a PC, like create a virtual set using Ultra. And other times you just want to have seamless "round tripping" from FCP to Motion!
I'm not going to call one better than the other but this edition is for all those out there with a Mac, ever wanted a Mac or are considering a Mac. Enjoy.
Found Video of the Week
Every week I bring you a new video that illustrates great video, great marketing or both. Enjoy!
Teenager makes commercial - Soon to Air
Mr Video says "After seeing his efforts, ad agency TBWA/Chiat/Day flew 18 year old Nick Haley to LA to do an HD version - way to go Nick"
"Quicktime vs. Flash" by Perry Lawrence
Why is Quicktime (QT) on the iPhone but not Flash? Why can't you subscribe to YouTube videos via iTunes? Why is Video Podcasting QT based and not Flash based when every other video sharing site is built around Flash?
Welcome to Video Format Politics. Apple has a vested interest in keeping their QT technology alive. And, to be honest, it is a superior platform for quality delivery. Flash player is installed on 90% of all computers. So, what is a person to do if you want best quality, easiest play (for users) and available on web, iTunes and iPods?
Good question - The easiest solution I have found is to use Blip.tv. Blip.tv allows you to upload a QT file and it converts it on the fly into flash video. Blip also allows you to share this file via embed and link codes AND will create an iTunes subscription for you (which works provided your original file was a QT with the proper specs).
What is really cool is that Blip.tv is very HD (or 16:9) friendly. Here is my channel:

I know - I will be updating this weekly so be patient (by this time next week there will be more!).
So if you want to have the most flexible playform, use Blip.tv. And, if you want the widest possible exposure, also upload your video to YouTube and Google.com/video.

Video Gear Review
Here we go! My favorite part of every "Tip of the Week". This is where we get to look at some neat toys tools!
Apple Leopard (OS 10.5)
What does an Operating System (OS) have to do with video? Well, LOTS it turns out. Apple has added features to OSX that show clearly they have an eye toward video, production and making life easy!
In this All Mac edition of the Tip of the Week, I wanted to show you some of the more video related developments to the OS.
Besides the cool eye candy and the wow factor that set the Mac OS apart; besides the ease of installation and upgrade; besides the revolutionary backup system; and, besides the ability to run MS Windows on your Mac computer (either boot into Windows OR run a Windows App on your Mac desktop) - besides all that. The Mac is a very intuitive video production environment. Leopard takes this further in the following ways - built into the OS:
iChat (Mac IM) now offers ability to broadcast your desktop
Show any file via IM (yes, movies and photos too)
You can access your desktop from any other Mac
You can create "workspaces" for better organization of workflow
Quicklook allows you to instantly play a video (no need for software to load)
OS Sync - Sync your important files and settings between multiple computers
Direct video recording
Pseudo green screen effect on Webcam
As one pundit mentioned, OS 10.5 is an "evolution, not a revolution." I agree to a point. What makes this upgrade stand out is the AMOUNT of evolutionary changes. There are 300 to be exact. Check them all out here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/300.html
